Players fight back as one of four superpowered individuals, each of which has unique powers. In Redfall, a group of big pharma billionaires have turned into vampires and taken over a small Massachusetts fishing town. Despite that, a design identity crisis and a bevy of technical issues make this a surprising disappointment from a development team that’s capable of so much more. Redfall’s writing and gunplay are competent and build upon Arkane’s expertise. And while multiplayer is inherently more fun, lots of little annoyances stack up to make it an inferior choice compared to much better co-op shooters on the market. The ideas don’t mesh well design caveats made to accommodate multiplayer suck the blood out of Redfall’s single-player experience. It’s trying to be an intense, emotional, and political immersive sim about vampires, but also an endlessly replayable co-op, open-world shooter. Redfall is conflicted about what it wants to be. Redfall is out now for PC and Xbox Series X.That’s why it’s a shame that these are two of the only scenes in which Redfall captures that magic. It's a shame that the game couldn't have launched with these improvements, but it will be interesting to see how the developers respond to fan feedback in the weeks and months ahead. Maybe one such update could also make the "Low" Input Response Preset the default setting to save new players some time. We know that Redfall updates will eventually add a 60 fps performance mode, and while not set in stone, it's possible that the online-only requirement will be removed at some point as well. There are future updates planned for Redfall that will hopefully improve the experience to something that's more in line with Arkane's standards. Hopefully this is addressed in a future update. This means that co-op players have to go back through missions they've already completed if they decide to ever play on their own. ![]() For some bizarre reason, only the host player in Redfall co-op retains mission progression. One major area where Redfall is lacking is its co-op progression. As Redfall reviews have pointed out, there are a multitude of other issues with the game, which is disappointing considering Arkane's track record of otherwise high quality releases. While this setting change should improve one's experience in Redfall, it's far from the game's only problem.
